HUNZA
THE LOST KINGDOM OF HIMALAYAS
RASHPARI PEAK (5058 M) CLIMB
Level C: (16 days) Across the river Hunza from Karimabad lies
the beautiful, unspoiled Nagar valley. Traditionally the bitterest
of foes, Hunzukuzts and Nagaries have made peace in a manner typical
of royalty; by marrying the princes of one to the king of the
other. The highest of this adventure in Nagar valley is the summit
of Rashphari peak, from where you have commanding views of Nagar
and Karimabad. Rakaposhi (7788m) and Diran (7258), which loom
large on the horizon. The trek commences from ex-king of Nagar's
palace, across the Barphu glacier to Hamdar, and in two days one
makes the journey to a glacier lake at the base of Rashphari peak.
The peak is not technically difficult, but requires a lot of stamina
as altitude gains are severe. After ascending Rashphary peak,
descend to Phahi Phari at the edge of Braphu glacier, traverse
the Barphu and return to Shishkin and Nagar. For this trek it
is mandatory to have emergency evacuation insurance.
